On 28th March 2011 Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren sank her feet and hands in wet cement outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre joining the impressions of various celebrities along the walk of fame. She was introduced by Arthur co-star Russel Brand and the ceremony took place less than two weeks before the release of their film.
Mirren won an Oscar in 2006 for her role as Queen Elizabeth in the film Queen. She has also been invested with the title of Dame Commander of the order of the British Empire. Mirren at 65 still appears in pivotal roles in movies and not just the usual grandmother roles. She will be seen playing Prospero in popular Shakespearean play adaptation of The Tempest, a role which has so far been essayed by men. The result is a film that transforms the play into a treatise on gender politics.
Mirren’s hands and feet impression at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre joins the likes of Hollywood celebrities like Julie Andrews, Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor who recently passed away.
Mirren is also a director and producer and plays the nanny of a drunken playboy played by Russel Brand in forthcoming film Arthur that releases on 8th April 2011.
